From the opening kick-off the Lady Eagles could tell they were going to be in for a battle, as conference games tend to bring out the best in teams. After a bit of back and forth possession, Embry-Riddle settled in and began to attack a bit more. Freshman #
Kalyn Goodenough# would get ERAU on the scoreboard first, as she took the ball deep to the goaline, then cut it back and finished with a brilliant strike into the upper corner in the 27th minute of ball. That 1-0 lead would last through halftime, but not much longer.
The second half saw Marymount press and challenge the Lady Eagle defensive right from the get go. In the 49th minute, that pressure would lead to a Marymount goal, tying the game at 1-1. Eagles sophomore keeper #
Brenna Quinn# came up with a couple of clutch saves too, and was able to keep the Mariner's at the lone goal. The final 30 minutes or so saw the teams battle in the midfield, but niether could really muster up a quality attack through the remainder of regulation.
After a tough and physcials 90 minutes of play, Embry-Riddle and Marymount were deadlocked at 1-1 and headed into overtime. That overtime lasted only 1:47, as ERAU's #
Savannah Garn# slotted a ball into senior #
Kelsey Anderson#, who found the back of the net and gave the Eagles a much deserved win against the CalPac divisional foe Mariners. "We utlized the time we had after regulation to get ourselves refocused", commented ERAU Head Coach #Todd Poitras# following the emotional win in overtime. He went on to say, "We knew we were fit and ready to go for the extra time, but we also knew that we should not have allowed ourselves to be put in that position in the first place. We struggled to connect passes today, especially on the fast turf. I'm tremendously proud of the ladies though, they found a way to get it done, and perservered. That was a testament to how tough this group really is." The win tonight brings the Lady Eagles record to 6-3-1, and more importantly 2-0-0 in the CalPac. The ladies will have little time to enjoy the win, as they face Soka University tomorrow night in Aliso Viejo for yet another CalPac South Divisional match-up. The game is scheduled for a 5:00PM kick-off, and is the first of a double header with the Eagle Men's team. GO EAGLES!!
