Soccer Lose Heartbreakers in Home Stand

Prescott - The Embry-Riddle men's soccer team drops first two games of the season.

The Eagles lost both games in their opening week of the 2016 season. The Eagles were unable to generate the offense needed in Thursday nights season opener against the College of Idaho. After a two hour rain delay, neither team was able to generate much offense in the first half. The Coyotes only goal came in the 2nd half when Carter Perry scored on the assist by Joseph Lopeyok. The Eagles had 5 shots on goal for the game, but just weren't able to connect for a goal. Jake Hutto did a great job in goal for The Eagles with 8 saves on the night.

The Eagles second game of the home stand ws against No. 20 Corban University on Saturday afternoon. Once again it took the second half to generate a goal but this time it was The Eagles that jumped in the lead 1-0 on a header by Stuart Graves on the Joel Paget corner kick at 65:50. The Eagles held the lead until the last ten minutes when Corban's Timur Zhividze had two quick back to back goals. The first at 83:45 when Zhividze followed up a penalty kick save with a score into the bottom corner of the goal. The second goal came on a break-away at by Zhividze at 85:15. "We were just a couple of adjustments away at the end of the game to be able to defeat a ranked team today. If we can make those adjustments during the season we will be very competitive," said Head Coach Adam Pearce.

The Eagles will hit the road with the women's team next week as they head to Southern California to play San Diego Christian University and Saint Katherines College.
