Prescott - The Embry-Riddle Eagles women's soccer team ended Monday's contest against the Master's College 1-1, in double overtime.
The Eagles (3-0-1) were unable to build on the early score of senior Estelle Fortes in the first three minutes of the game. Fortes punched one in on the assist by Breanna Larkin for the only goal of the game by The Eagles. The ladies had several opportunities launching 17 shots on the day and five corner kicks but the Mustangs Jessica Zubia came up with 7 saves in goal. The loan goal by the Mustangs came in the first three minutes of the second half when Hailey Gomillion was able to head the ball inches above the outstretched arms of Eagles goalie Emily Lambert.
The Eagles continued to push the ball upfield but just were not able to convert their attacks into goal. Estelle Fortes led the attack with 4 shots and 2 shots on goal. She was followed by Callie Orizotti who had 3 shots and 1 shot on goal , Ally Leara with 3 shots, and Krista Lee with 3 shots and 2 shots on goal. Parker Lee also contributed with 2 shots and 2 shots on goal and Emily Lambert had 3 saves on the day."I think we showed a bit of our Youth and inexperience today. The Masters worked extremely hard, and they play a difficult system to defend at times. That combined with our struggles technically, was just not a good combination for us. All the same, we still continued to create a scoring opportunities, and will take many lessons out of drawing with a tough squad like TMU," said Head Coach Todd Poitras.
The Eagles will hit the road next weekend when they face Westmont College and the University of La Verne. Go Eagles!
