PRESCOTT, Ariz. - Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) continued their chase for a conference championship at home against Marymount California University. Led by an outstanding effort from Ally Leara (SR/Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) on both sides of the ball, the Eagles (7-3-2, Cal Pac 4-0) took the match 3-0.
The first half proved to be a defensive battle on both ends. The Eagles were only able to put up three shots on goal, coming from Leara, Lauren Foster (FR/Chino Valley, Ariz.) and Sierra Vicente (SO/Las Vegas, Nev.). Brooke Ybarra had a good look for a shot at first, but a diving effort from Leara saved a potential goal. The Mariners (3-7-1, Cal Pac 2-1) were able to get a shot with less than a minute, but both teams ended the half with zeros on the board.
ERAU kept up a relentless attack throughout the second half, with Riley Martinson (JR/Deer Park, Wash.) scoring the first goal with an assist from Katy Hyde (FR/Denton, Texas). Madison Villela tried to tie it up with a header that just went over the crossbar. The second goal of the game came from Leara on a free kick from about 40 yards out. Late in the second half, Martinson drew a foul inside the box that led to a penalty kick goal for Maddy Mak (SR/Renton, Wash.), scoring the third and final goal of the game.
The Eagles will take on La Sierra on Friday October 11 at 12:00 pm MST.
