Eagles Drop Hard Fought Match in Cal Pac Semi-Finals

PRESCOTT, Ariz. - Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) hosted Marymount California University in the first semi-final game of the Cal Pac tournament. The Eagles (12-4-3, 9-1-1 Cal Pac) had an unfortunate end to their season at home after a tough fought match with the Mariners (10-9-1, 8-3 Cal Pac).

The first of half play proved to be an even battle between the two teams. Ally Leara (SR/Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) brought the Eagles their first good look with a high shot just outside the box, which was set up after Riley Martinson (JR/Deer Park, Wash.) was able to draw a foul. Martinson got her own shot later into the half, which Luz Lopez saved for the Mariners. The ball had a dramatic roll along the goal line until Sierra Vicente (SO/Las Vegas, Nev.) kicked a follow up wide shot. Alyssa Smith managed to get through the Eagles' defense for a shot of her own, ending wide of the goal. Peighton Gumm (JR/Gilbert, Ariz.) made the last significant push for ERAU, having a shot blocked by Karli Slater. Vicente was there for another chance, but ended up high. The Eagles and Mariners left the field after the first half tied at zeros.

The second half started off fast for the Mariners, with Brooke Ybarra scoring in under three minutes. Martinson tried to answer for the Eagles 10 minutes later, but could not sink her shot. Despite the Mariners controlling the ball a good portion of the second half, Gumm managed to sneak a shot in but put a little too much on it. Martinson gave the Eagles their best look of the second half with 4 minutes to go, but Madison Villela slid over to save ERAU's potential goal. The Mariner's lone goal would be the only one scored, leaving the Eagles with the 1-0 loss.
