Eagles Fall to Owls

PRESCOTT, Ariz. - Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University came up short against Oregon Tech at home. The Eagles (1-1) had a great defensive effort against the Owls (4-0), holding them to 42 percent shooting, but could not get the offense rolling.

Gilbert Ibarra (SR/Prescott Valley, Ariz.) came out strong matching the Owls first five points with his own, with a field goal and a three. OIT started a five point run which was quickly interupted by a Kaden Herbert (JR/Georgetown, Texas) bucket from Conner Verdugo (SO/Sahuarita, Ariz.). Soon after the Eagles found themselves down six when Dennis Pomazanov (FR/Pleasant Hill, Calif.) had a huge and one conversion. Ibarra was the biggest offensive star of the first half, scoring nine for the Eagles. Johnson led the Eagles with rebounds, opening with four. ERAU was outrebounded 28-16 and had some struggle from the free throw line, only converting on 30 percent. After an offensive struggle and great defensive effort, the Eagles entered the lockerroom only down 37-24.

Second half of play looked similar for Embry-Riddle. Trace Edmier (SR/Mesa, Ariz.) led the Eagles in points with 17 on the night. Edmier's tough play in the paint brought him 11 made free throws on 15 attempts, the most free throws of the game. Seth Erickson led the night for the Owls with 22 points and two rebounds short of a double double. Eagles had trouble shooting the ball, finishing the game with 32 percent made and 12 percent behind the arc. Verdugo was able to sneak in four assists, leading the Eagles on the night. ERAU would end up falling to the Owls 74-53.
