(22) Eagles Push Win Streak to Five

Box Score

PRESCOTT, ARIZ. – In the first matchup with Westcliff, the ERAU women's soccer team scored five of its six goals in the second half en route to a large victory. The Eagles did score all of its goals in the second half on Friday, but were in a much more competitive game against the Warriors.

Haley Matthews scored her first goal of the season in the 72' to break a scoreless tie, and Sierra Vicente added the insurance goal in the 88' to give the Eagles a 2-0 win. The victory is not only the fifth straight for ERAU, but it is also the fifth straight shutout by the Eagles.

While the goals came late, ERAU had controlled the play for most of the evening before the first goal. The Eagles finished with 21 total shots (11 on target), and also had seven corner kicks.

The game felt that it may be drifting into overtime as the Warriors began to tighten its defense, but a ball found its way to the foot of Matthews. She had been working hard all night on the back end for ERAU, and was able to help her team up top as well.

"It feels good to contribute on the board with your team," Matthews said. "Being in the back, sometimes it's hard being there a lot of minutes but putting one in the net for the team felt really good."

Thanks to one save by Mackenize Osther, ERAU's shutout streak had 90 more minutes added to it, sitting now at 506:34. Westcliff made a small push after the game's first goal, but the Eagles put out those attempts before Vicente's insurance tally.

"We are really connected on and off the field, and I think our connection really translates when we come out here," Vicente said. "We have a great bond with each other and it really shows when we play."

ERAU gets back on the field for its final regular-season home game against Saint Katherine. It is the biggest matchup of the season to this point, as an Eagles win would result in clinching the Southwest pod. Kickoff from Prescott on Sunday is scheduled for 1 p.m.
