Embry-Riddle Blanks Benedictine-Mesa

Box Score

Prescott, Ariz. – A goal in the first half proved to be enough as the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) women's soccer team scored a 3-0 victory over Benedictine-Mesa in California Pacific Conference (Cal Pac) play. Katy Hyde (JR/Denton, Texas) scored the game-winner for the Eagles, with Mackenzie Osther (SR/San Diego, Calif.) recording her third shutout of the season.

Embry-Riddle and Benedictine-Mesa each generated scoring chances in the opening minutes, but Osther turned away the shot she saw, with her counterpart also stopping a pair of shots. In the 24th minute the Eagles broke through when Kylee Bennett (SO/Pocatello, Idaho) got the ball to Hyde, who slipped it in for her fifth goal of the season. ERAU continued to have the upper hand in ball control, but the two teams would combine for just two more shots on goal for the remainder of the half.

Just three minutes into the half Hyde was pulled down in the box, resulting in a penalty kick for Embry-Riddle. Haley Harris (SO/Tucson, Ariz.) stepped up to take it and converted, making it three-for-three on the season for her. The PK spurred the offense for the Eagles, with the team getting off five more shots on goal over the next 15 minutes, including a pair by Rae Yoshioka (FR/Pearl City, Hawaii). The first four were turned away, but in the 63rd minute Bennett picked up her second assist of the night, this time getting a ball to Sierra Vicente (SR/Las Vegas, Nev.) who finished for her third tally of the season. That was more than enough for ERAU as its defense held the Redhawks to just two more shots the rest of the way. Osther finished with six saves for the Eagles to complete her shutout.
