Box Score PRESCOTT, ARIZ. – The Embry-Riddle volleyball team moved within one win of the NAIA Tournament on Thursday, as it won its opening match of the 2021 Cal Pac Tournament. The Eagles dominated in stretches of a match they ultimately won in three sets, and a win Friday morning would give ERAU the Cal Pac Regular Season Championship.
The Eagles jumped out early on Thursday, taking 10 of the match's first 12 points en route to a 25-19 set win. La Sierra made it closer in the second set, but ERAU was ultimately able to take that as well, 27-25.
ERAU used that momentum from the second set to jump out to yet another big lead in the third set. The Eagles closed it out with an identical score to the first set, 25-19, to advance to the Regular Season Final.
It was another great hitting day for the Eagles, as the team finished with 41 kills. Three ERAU players had double-digit kill totals, led by Caylee Robalin's 13. Sharik Joseph finished with 10 kills and just one error, accumulating a hitting percentage of .474.
Defensively, Embry-Riddle finished with 20 block assists and four solo blocks. Joseph had five block assists and a block solo, and four different ERAU players had at least four block assists.
The Eagle defense held La Sierra to a .009 hitting percentage on Thursday, and four players finished with double-digit dig totals. Robalin led the way with 15, and Erin Clark managed 11 to go along with her 11 kills.
The two-setter system was dishing the ball all over the court, as Katie Rolle and Terra Gordon each had double-digit assist totals. Rolle finished with 18 to go along with four kills, and Gordon had 14 helpers plus a service ace.
The Eagles will hit the court on Friday inside Eagle Gym, as they face second seed Park-Gilbert. First serve is scheduled for 11 AM.
