Second Half Surge Not Enough at Cactus Classic

Box Score

CHANDLER, ARIZ. – In a reversal of the previous night's game, the Embry-Riddle men's basketball struggled from the floor out of the gate, but improved as the afternoon went on, but was not enough to escape a 12-point defeat on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles have now dropped its first two games of the Cactus Classic.

The Eagles were exceptional offensively in the second half, making 54.3% of its field goals and scoring 56 of its 75 points. Jake Klinger scored all 12 of his points in just nine minutes during the final half.

While it was an excellent half offensively, ERAU dug themselves too deep of a hole during the first 20 minutes. The team trailed 47-19 at the half, and made just six field goals in that time.

Four Eagle players finished in double-digit scoring totals by the final horn, with Chase Verdugo leading the way giving 17 points. Conner Verdugo finished with 14, and David Teibo had ten.

Klinger crashed the glass hard, grabbing seven rebounds to go along with his 12 points. Trevor Weir also snagged seven boards, and managed a block as well.

The Eagles will play its final game of the Cactus Classic Monday afternoon against fourth-ranked Carroll College. Tip-off from Chandler-Gilbert Community College is scheduled for 2 p.m.
