Box Score Prescott, Ariz. – Four first half goals were enough for the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) men's soccer team as the Eagles saw their offense generate seven scores in a 7-0 blanking of the University of the Southwest. Chiedu Ikeme (SR/Inverness, Scotland) came up big for ERAU, scoring twice and adding an assist.
Embry-Riddle (2-0) had the upper hand early getting off a couple of shots before Ikeme found Jacob Baker (SR/Graham, Wash.) free. Baker did not waste the opportunity, burying his shot in the net for his second goal of the season at the 9:38 mark. The University of the Southwest (0-2) finally got a shot off in the 15th minute, but Alastair Stark (SR/Sevenoaks, England) was up to the task, turning away the attempt. A minute and a half later Ikeme connected on his first goal of the day, taking the pass from Djougher Oliveira and putting it home. Eleven minutes later Ikeme struck again to make it 3-0. Lucas Garcia (JR/Barcelona, Spain) finished the scoring in the half at 33:57 and the ERAU defense did the rest, holding the Mustangs to two shots, both saved by Stark.
After a lengthy delay for lightning at halftime, Oliveira connected in the 48th minute to put the game out of reach. Southwest could only manage one shot in the half against the stout Eagle defense and was never able to mount a comeback. Paul Fulop (JR/Chicago, Ill.) and Ethan Carlson (SR/Edgewood, Wash.) closed out the scoring for ERAU.
