ERAU Takes Down Westcliff In First Cal Pac Match of the Season

Box Score

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – It was a good start to the California Pacific Conference (Cal Pac) season for the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) women's volleyball team. The Eagles took to the road for their first conference matches of the season and came away with a sweep in their first, defeating Westcliff University, 25-22, 25-21, 25-12. Erin Clark (SR/Phoenix, Ariz.) and Elisa Pauzer (SR/Campinas, Brazil) each reached double figures in kills for ERAU.

Embry-Riddle (9-5, 1-0 Cal Pac) broke open a close first set with a 4-0 run to take a 13-9 lead. Westcliff (2-5, 0-1 Cal Pac) came back and closed to a point at 21-20, but it was as close as the Warriors would get as Caylee Robalin (SR/El Paso, Texas) closed out the set with a kill.

An ace by Lily Figgins (FR/St. Charles, Mo.) put the Eagles on top 5-2 early in the second set, but again Westcliff fought back and eventually took a 13-12 lead. Consecutive kills by Clark put ERAU back on top at 16-14 and the Eagles did not trail again. Clark ended up getting six of the last seven kills for the Eagles as they went up 2-0 in the match.

In the third set ERAU cranked up the offense, hitting at a nearly 50 percent clip, while its defense held the Warriors to a zero hitting percentage. Pauzer led the way early for ERAU, getting a pair of kills and a pair of blocks to lead the Eagles to a 9-3 advantage. ERAU later went on a 4-0 run, taking a 17-7 lead on an ace from Kat Yung (SR/Phoenix, Ariz.). The Warriors could not stage a comeback and Pauzer led the way at the finish as well, four kills down the stretch as the Eagles closed out the victory on a block by Robalin.
