Box Score Glendale, Ariz. – In a battle between a pair of teams that had not had a loss this season, it was Arizona Christian that came out on top in its battle with the No. 25 Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) men's soccer team, with the Firestorm came out on top 1-0 in double overtime.
Arizona Christian (6-0-1) had a shot on goal in the first minute, but Elias Ammon (FR/Bremen, Germany) was up to the challenge and made the save for Embry-Riddle (6-1). The Eagles came back and got a shot on goal by Djougher Oliveira (SR/Belo Horizonte, Brazil) four minutes later, but it was saved as well. That is the way it would go for the rest of the half as both teams got off a total of four shots on goal, all of which were saved.
Neither team could get off a shot on goal in the second half. Embry-Riddle had an opportunity in the 73rd minute when the Eagles were awarded a penalty kick. But the attempt by Lucas Garcia (JR/Barcelona, Spain) was wide and the two teams went into extra time.
Ammon saved the only shot on goal by either team in the first OT and the game went to a second overtime. With less than three minutes to go the Firebirds were able to get a ball down the right side which was then sent to the middle where it was converted into a goal that gave the Eagles their first loss of the season.
