Box Score Prescott, Ariz. – Playing in its first home conference game of the season, the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) women's volleyball team made the most of the opportunity, taking down Benedictine-Mesa in three sets by a final of 25-17, 25-22, 25-20. Erin Clark (SR/Phoenix, Ariz.) and Caylee Robalin (SR/El Paso, Texas) had 15 and 12 kills apiece to lead the Eagles.
Back-to-back kills by Clark and Robalin had Embry-Riddle (12-5, 4-0 Cal Pac) up 11-3 early in the first set. Benedictine-Mesa (3-11, 1-4 Cal Pac) could not score more than three straight points the rest of the way in the set as the Eagles went on to the win.
It was much closer in the second set, with the two sides staying within two points early in the set. Leading 11-10, ERAU picked up four straight points to move to a 15-10 lead on a hitting error by BenU. The RedHawks fought back and used an 8-2 run to take a 20-17 advantage. After a timeout, Embry-Riddle rattled off three straight to tie it, and then closed it out by outscoring its opponent 5-2, clinching it on an ace by Terra Gordon (SR/San Antonio, Texas).
ERAU got off to a 9-3 start in the third set after a kill from Sharik Joseph (SR/San Diego, Calif.), and then increased its advantage to 17-10 on an Erika Herr (JR/Buckley, Wash.) ace. BenU was not done, however, using an 8-1 run to close to 23-20. That would be as close as the Eagles would allow their opponent, as Clark came up with her final two kills to close out the victory.
