No. 21 Embry-Riddle Scores Third Straight Shutout

Box Score

Prescott, Ariz. – A standout performance by the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Prescott) women's soccer team defense helped propel the Eagles to their third straight shutout. In a battle of two teams getting national attention in the polls, No. 21 ERAU scored a 2-0 victory over Ottawa University (Ariz.), a team that received votes in the latest top-25 poll.

Both teams got off shots on goal in the first five minutes, but both were saved to keep it scoreless. Embry-Riddle (4-3-1) kept up the offensive pressure, forcing a corner kick in the 12th minute. A minute later Kylee Bennett (SO/Pocatello, Idaho) found the back of the net for the first score of the evening. That proved to be all of the scoring of the half, as Mackenzie Osther (SR/San Diego, Calif.) stopped the four shots that made it on goal, with her counterpart making six stops in the half.

Embry-Riddle's defense allowed just two shots, both of which were saved by Osther, over the first 14 minutes of the second half and did not allow another until the 88th minute. The Eagles had some good looks on the offensive end, including flurry in front of the Ottawa (Ariz.) (6-2) goal that resulted in a hit post by Jennifer Inions (SR/Prosser, Wash.) and a hit crossbar by Ashley Askevold (SR/Lake Stevens, Wash.). With less than four minutes left ERAU put the icing on the victory when Haley Harris (SO/Tucson, Ariz.) scored off Katy Hyde's (JR/Denton, Texas) assist.
