Embry-Riddle Powers Past Park in Three Sets

Box Score

Prescott, Ariz. – In a battle of undefeated teams in California Pacific Conference volleyball play, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) stayed perfect, defeating Park University-Gilbert, 25-20, 25-11, 29-27. The Eagles had their offense humming in the victory, hitting at a .351 clip, while its defense came up with 10 blocks, including a pair of solos from Dalia Haase (FR/Tucson, Ariz.), as it held the Buccaneers to a .074 effort.

In the opening set neither team could get much of a cushion. Embry-Riddle (13-5, 5-0 Cal Pac) took advantage of a pair of attack errors to pull in front 12-8, and it proved to be just enough of an edge as the Eagles held off Park (5-4, 4-1 Cal Pac) the rest of the way. Erin Clark (SR/Phoenix, Ariz.) and Caylee Robalin (SR/El Paso, Texas) combined for the last seven kills of the set for ERAU as they took the 1-0 lead in the match.

It was a different story in the second set as Embry-Riddle jumped out to a 6-0 lead. The Eagle defense prevented the Buccaneers from scoring back-to-back points at any time in the set as they cruised to the easy victory. Clark had four kills in the set, with Sharik Joseph (SR/San Diego, Calif.) and Roblin adding three each.

ERAU got off to an 11-7 lead in the third set on a kill from Clark, but Park came back to tie it and it went back and forth from there. It was tied at 18-all when the Eagles picked up back-to-back blocks from Elisa Pauzer (SR/Campinas, Brazil) and Haase to go up 21-18. The Buccaneers came back and were serving for the set point, but Joseph held them off with a kill. It went back and forth from there until ERAU used a block from Clark, and then another from Pauzer and Haase to end it.
