Eagles Drop 2-0 Decision in Florida

Box Score

Miami Lakes, Fla. – In its first of two games in Florida this weekend, the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) women's soccer team matched up with host St. Thomas University on the stat sheet in all but the most important category, goals, as the Eagles dropped a 2-0 decision to the Bobcats. Katy Hyde (JR/Denton, Texas) had five shots to lead ERAU.

St. Thomas (3-0) struck for both of its goals early in the first half, getting the first just 2:52 into the contest on the first shot of the evening by either team. The second came six and a half minutes later and Embry-Riddle (1-2-1) found itself in a 2-0 hole. The Eagles got two shots on goal the rest of the half, but both were turned away by the St. Thomas goalkeeper.

Embry-Riddle got off to a solid start in the second half and forced a pair of corner kicks nine minutes in. Both resulted in shots on goal, the first by Hyde and the second a try by Paige Thompson (JR/Los Alamitos, Calif.), but the Bobcat goalkeeper came up with the save both times. Mackenzie Osther (SR/San Diego, Calif.) came up with a pair of saves in goal for the Eagles in the middle part of the half to keep them in the hunt. Hyde got off another pair of shots in the final 10 minutes, but one was wide and the other saved. ERAU outshot its host 12-11, but the Bobcats saved all six that were on goal as they came up with the shutout victory.
