Eagles Battle All the Way to Finish at Final Site

Box Score

ORANGE BEACH, ALA. – The Embry-Riddle women's soccer team fought every second during the 2022 season, and Tuesday showed no different for the program. Despite never leading in the contest, the Eagles came back from three different deficits to force overtime with the defending NAIA National Champions Tennessee Southern.

The Eagles had controlled most of the contest after the first half, outshooting UT Southern 11-2 in the final 45 minutes and 2-0 in the 20 minutes of extra time. ERAU also had four corner kicks in the second half, and had a 7-1 advantage on Tuesday afternoon.

The contest eventually went past the extra time period, and into penalty kicks for the second straight game for ERAU. The Eagles did not get the same result as they did in Prescott over a week ago to get to the final site, and UT Southern advanced 4-2 in the shootout round.

After entering halftime down 1-0, Embry-Riddle did not wait long to find an equalizer. Katy Hyde scored in the 50th minute to tie the game, and Hyde would not be done.

UT Southern took a 2-1 lead just 21 seconds after Hyde tied the game, but the senior would step up to the occasion again. Hyde would score again in the 54th minute to tie the game once again.

The Firehawks would get a goal in the 77th minute, but Embry-Riddle continued to push and get opportunities. Rae Yoshioka had been good at setting up her teammates all season long, and did so again in the 82nd minute when she sent a good ball to Aubrie Labno who equalized the game for the third time in the second half.

Hyde and Labno converted on their penalty kicks following the overtime. Annabelle Ruckle made four saves prior to PKs, and earned another decision for the third time in this national tournament.

Every Eagle left everything they had on the field on Tuesday, as nine different players logged over 100 minutes, and six different field players participated in every second. Eight different players also recorded a shot on Tuesday, as the Eagles finished with 19 total.

Embry-Riddle's historic season has now come to a close, one where they had just two official losses. For the latest news on the women's soccer program, be sure to visit eraueagles.com often.
