Box Score

RIVERSIDE, CALIF. – Heartbreak struck the Embry-Riddle men's basketball team on Sunday night, as a last-second layup by La Sierra cost the Eagles its chance at breaking the streak. The Eagles tied the game in the dying seconds thanks to a Christmas Togiai, Jr. three pointer, but DJ Everage gave La Sierra the 91-89 victory.

This matchup proved that basketball is a game of runs, as both teams fought back and forth for momentum with big offensive stretches in the second half. Embry-Riddle went on an 18-3 run to grab a 10-point lead early in the second half, then the Golden Eagles battled back with a 19-5 run of its own to take a six-point advantage.

ERAU trailed by 10 with 3:17 to go in regulation, but battled all the way back to tie thanks to a 14-4 run. Togiai, Jr. scored ten of the 14 points in that run to give the Eagles a chance for the victory.

Togiai, Jr. finished the night with 28 points, scoring 20 of those in the frantic second half. He made eight of his 13 shots, and was a perfect 11-11 from the free thrown line on Sunday.

David Teibo also added 21 points, and finished two rebounds shy of the double-double. Teibo also did most of his work in the second half, scoring 13 with five boards and shooting 67% in the final 20 minutes.

In all, four of ERAU's five starters finished with double-digit point totals, as Trevor Weir scored 14 while Luke Dunn added 12. As a team, the Eagles shot the ball well, making 53.4% of its shots compared to La Sierra's 50.7%.

The Eagles have a busy week ahead, starting with its final non-conference game of the season on Wednesday, February 16. Tipoff against OUAZ in Prescott at the ERAU Activity Center is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
