Box Score PRESCOTT, ARIZ. – The 25th-ranked Embry-Riddle women's soccer team found itself in a seesaw battle with in-state foe OUAZ on Tuesday night in the season opener. The game had three lead changes and three different ties before halftime saw the Spirit score twice in the second half, and the Eagles fell 5-3.
Embry-Riddle found themselves down by a goal just five minutes into the game, but did not wait long to get back even. Rae Yoshioka clanked a hard shot of the OUAZ keeper's legs and tied the contest at one near the end of the 16th minute.
Then, just 4:53 later, the Eagles grabbed its first lead of the game. Sierra Vicente put in a goal following a great effort by Kylee Bennet to create a 2-on-1. Bennett send a pass to Vicente at the top of the 18 yard box, and the senior was able to convert.
OUAZ tied the game once again in the 23rd minute, but Embry-Riddle was able to grab the advantage quickly again. Ellie Neal fired an excellent shot from a few yards outside the goal following an excellent corner kick from Yoshioka, and ERAU was rolling with a 3-2 advantage.
The Spirit tied the game with a goal before the halftime whistle, and finished the game scoring three unanswered tallies. The Eagles similar opportunities like in the first half, taking nine shots in the final 45 minutes and finishing the game with 18.
A lot of the Embry-Riddle opportunities were found its way on target, as the Eagles had 10 shots on goal. ERAU also took ten corner kicks, with six of those coming in the second half.
Embry-Riddle will have the rest of the week off, and then play at home on the first day of the new school year. The Eagles will host Rocky Mountain College on Monday, August 29 at Varsity Field, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
