Resilient Rally Falls Short

PRESCOTT, ARIZ. – It was a disastrous start for the Embry-Riddle men's basketball team on Sunday, as the Eagles trailed by 17 with just less than five minutes before halftime. The Eagles fought valiantly in the final 25 minutes in the contest, but fell just three points short to Cal Maritime to wrap up the weekend.

Embry-Riddle trailed by 15 with 4:53 to go, and took advantage of Cal Maritime errors to pull within two points with 23 seconds remaining. ERAU was unable to take the lead, but went on a 19-7 run to close out the game.

Demari Hackett had the best game of his young college career, scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Hackett made eight of his 13 shots, and gave Embry-Riddle multiple second chance looks with eight offensive rebounds.

Conner Verdugo was the game's leading scorer, putting in 21 points and making four of seven three-point attempts. Conner Verdugo also added four rebounds, three assists and four steals.

Dennis Pomazanov was a key on the defensive end, affecting plenty of shots and grabbing 15 rebounds. Pomazanov also had a game-high six assists and a steal.

The Eagles will get back on the court next Friday as they near the end of its long homestand. Embry-Riddle will host Saint Katherine on Friday night, with tipoff from the ERAU Activity Center on January 13th scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
