Box Score Embry-Riddle won the second, third, and fifth sets tonight on their way to another victory as they beat the Red Hawks of Simpson University in Redding tonight.
The Eagles fell early as Simpson jumped out to an 8-3 lead as they benefitted from a few ERAU errors. Kelly Hansen (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) then had a kill to bring the score to 8-4 still in favor of the Red Hawks. SU scored the next two before Katie Rolle (Missoula, Mont.) got Embry-Riddle another point. The teams traded points until Simpson used a 6-1 run to take a big lead at 18-10. ERAU tried to get back into the set, but the Red Hawk lead was too much as they won 25-19.
Rolle started the Eagles off well in set 2 as she had a kill followed by two service aces by Erika Herr (Buckley, Wash) to put the Eagles up 3-0. Embry-Riddle used their early momentum as they won the set and tied the match at 1-1.
The third set was close all the way as there were multiple ties and lead changes throughout. Hannah Clear (Fort Worth, Texas) tied the set at 3-3 with her first of three kills in it. Simpson scored the next two points as they went up 5-3 before a Red Hawk error made the score 4-5. Emma Barber (Goodyear Ariz.) helped keep the score close as just when it seemed SU would make a run, she would have a kill as she brought the Eagles within one at 8-9. After back and forth play, Embry-Riddle was finally able to tie the set at 15-15 on a block by Hansen and Haase. ERAU took the lead at 17-16 on a kill by Dailia Haase (Tucson, Ariz.) and added two more points on a Simpson error and a service ace by Hie Loui (Honolulu, Hawaii). The Eagles went up 22-17 before the Red Hawks could score again and Embry-Riddle won the set 25-20 and took a 2-1 lead in the match.
After going down 2-0 to start the fourth set, ERAU scored the next eight points on kills from Alexsandra Rodriguez (Phoenix, Ariz.), Haase, and Rolle. Simpson got back in the set with some good offense of their own as they got two kills and a service ace and made the score 13-10. Embry-Riddle scored on an error and another Barber kill as the Eagles went on a 7-4 run to take a 20-14 lead. Not wanting the match to be over however, the Red Hawks kept battling as they tied the set at 20-20. Back to back blocks from Clear and Hansen gave ERAU a late two point advantage with the score 22-20. The Eagles had a few errors at the end as Simpson won the set 25-23 and tied the match at two sets a piece.
Barber started off the 5th set with a kill to give ERAU a 1-0 lead. A SU error and a kill by Rodriguez put Embry-Riddle up 3-0 before the Red Hawks got a kill to make the score 3-1. Simpson scored the next two points to tie the set at 3-3. The Eagles got timely hitting as Rolle, Rodriguez, and Hansen each added another kill to their stats for the night and Embry-Riddle took an 8-4 lead. ERAU kept their momentum rolling as they went on to win the fifth and final set 15-7 and win the match 3-2.
Embry-Riddle will play again tomorrow night at 7:30pm in Angwin as the Pioneers of Pacific Union College host the Eagles.
