Second Half Scoring Drought Hurts ERAU

Box Score

Embry-Riddle kept the game close in the first half but struggled to score early in the second as they lost to Park Gilbert in Mesa on Tuesday evening with a final score of 63-83.

Christmas Togiai, Jr. (Kapolei, Hawaii) started the scoring the Eagles as he made a layup just two minutes into the game.  Togiai, Jr's layup was followed by a three pointer from Jake Klingler (Gilbert, Ariz.) to bring ERAU within three as Park led 8-5.  The Buccaneers started to pull away from Embry-Riddle a little, but the Eagles kept themselves in the game with timely baskets.  Halfway through the half, Zack Moritz (Ontario, Calif.) made it a one point game with a three of his own as it was 15-16.  With 9:14 left in half Dennis Pomazanov (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) made two free throws to tie the game at 19-19 and Brett Bush (Nicholasville, Kentucky) put Embry-Riddle ahead for the first time with a basket of his own.  The Eagles led by as many as six before Park game storming back and went on a 10-0 run to go back in the lead at 35-31.  At the half, the score was in favor of the Buccaneers 38-35.

In the first six minutes of the second half, Bush made a three point shot and Conner Ivy (Phoenix, Ariz.) added a layup but that was all the scoring for ERAU as Park ran their lead to ten points.  With 14:07 Togiai Jr. made a free throw to bring the score to 44-53 but the Eagles didn't score again until he scored a layup with 9:25 to go in the game.  By then, the Buccaneers lead reached 17 and it was too much for Embry-Riddle.  ERAU continued to fight but fell to Park by a score of 63-83.

Togiai Jr. led Embry-Riddle in scoring with 16 points and Bush added 12. Pomazanov finished the night with 11 points, seven rebounds, and four assists for the Eagles.

Embry-Riddle will return home as they play on Thursday evening at 7:30pm against Benedictine Mesa in the Activity Center.
