BOULDER CITY, NEV. – The Embry-Riddle women's golf team started its Spring season this week, heading to Southern Nevada for the Las Vegas Shootout. The event, hosted by Oklahoma City University, saw the Eagles battle with some of the NAIA's best teams over a two-day stretch.
Embry-Riddle finished sixth, and had an excellent second round. As a team, the Eagles' 313 in the final round on Tuesday was a top-five team score, and allowed them to move up the team leaderboard.
Libby Axen finished tied for tenth, using a great second round to keep pace with the top players in the tournament. Axen had a pair of birdies on Tuesday, finished with four in the tournament, and had the second-best par-5 average.
Maisy Alsen tied for 16th, but had an excellent second round on Tuesday to vault her up the individual leaderboard. Alsen shot a 75 (+3) over the final 18 holes, and also had a top-10 par-3 average in the entire event.
Kaetlin Halseth also had a solid second round, allowing her to jump up nine spots on the individual leaderboard on Tuesday. Halseth posted a 78 (+6) on the final day, and had a great birdie on the par-5 fifth hole to start her back nine.
Hailey Stevenson had a consistent tournament, shooting one shot better on Monday and finishing 30th. Hannah Spiller improved her score in the second round as well, posting a score three strokes better on Tuesday to move up the individual leaderboard a couple of spots.
The Eagles will make a return to Sothern Nevada in two weeks when they participate in the Rocky Mountain College Intercollegiate. The first day of the tournament from Reflection Bay Golf Club in Henderson, Nev. is set for Tuesday, March 7.
