LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Running outside for the first time this year, the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) men's distance track team took part in the Oxy Distance Carnival hosted by Occidental College.
A majority of the team competed in the 5,000 meters, where junior Demetris Love, Jr. (Phoenix, Ariz.) had the top time of the seven Eagles in the race, clocking a 14:58.66, a time that was just 5.66 second away from the NAIA B standard. Two other ERAU runners went under the 16-minute mark, with senior Jacob Block (Gilbert, Ariz.) turning in a 15:31.61, and sophomore Austin Lemus (Chino, Calif.) finishing in 15:52.64.
At 800 meters senior Darren Mudge (Scotts Valley, Ariz.) broke the two-minute mark with his 1:57.28, while senior Doutimi Fakrogha (Woodland Hills, Calif.) had the team's best mark at 1,500 meters with a 4:08.26. ERAU had one runner in both the 10K and the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Freshman Nathan Kutscher (Huntington Beach, Calif.) clocked a 33:34.26 in the 10,000, with sophomore Nick Logan (Phoenix, Ariz.) finishing with a 10:00.59 in the steeplechase.
