Box Score 2 Ashland, Ore.- Embry-Riddle started their season with a come from behind five set win over Oregon Tech and dropped their second match of the day to tournament hosts #20 Southern Oregon.
Match 1- ERAU found themselves down early on Friday morning but battled back to close out a five set victory to start the SOU tournament. In the first set, the Eagles couldn't seem to get in any sort of rhythm, however in the second set Embry-Riddle picked up some momentum. ERAU came out in the 3rd set and after going down early, used a kill by Emma Barber (Goodyear, Ariz.) to take the lead for good. The Eagles used a 7-2 to go up 20-13 and end the set with a 25-18 win. In set four, Embry-Riddle used timely hitting by Daila Haase (Tucson, Ariz.) to close out a 25-21 win with two straight kills and a block to win 25-21. The fifth set was then all Eagles as they went up 6-0 and won the set 15-8. Alexsandra Rodriguez led the Eagles attack with 12 kills in the first match of the day and Katie Rolle (Missoula, Mont.) finished the match with 39 assists.
Match 2- In the second match of the day, Embry-Riddle couldn't seem to get their offense going in the match as they lost 0-3 to Southern Oregon. The Eagles took an early lead in the 1st set, but a 9-1 run by the Raiders gave them a lead they wouldn't give up as they took set one. In the second set Embry-Riddle was able to find a little more offense as Haase led the way with five kills. In the final set of the match, SOU used another long scoring run to win the set and take the match.
Rolle finished the day with 63 assists, picking up right where she left off last year. Haase led the team with 19 kills and added in 4.5 blocks.
The Eagles will play again tomorrow at 1pm against Menlo and at 7pm against Corban to finish off the tournament.
