Box Score After dropping the first set, Embry-Riddle won the next three over Park-Gilbert to win their match at Legacy Sports Complex 3-1 today.
The Buccaneers won the first set over the Eagles 25-18. Embry-Riddle appeared to start off just like yesterday as they got three kills right away, two from Dalia Haase (Tucson, Ariz.) and one from Alexsandra Rodriguez (Phoenix, Ariz.) as they took a 4-1 lead. After a few errors by ERAU, Park-Gilbert was up 8-6. Alexis Creager (Berthoud, Colo.) tied the game at 10-10 and an Erika Herr (Buckley, Wash.) put Embry-Riddle up 12-10. A kill by Hannah Clear (Fort Worth, Texas) made the score 19-18 in favor of the Buccaneers, but that was the closest the Eagles would get as Park would close out the set.
Haase started off set 2 with another kill and Lily Figgins (St. Charles, MO.) served up an ace to give ERAU a 3-2 lead. After the score was tied at 5-5, Park-Gilbert used a 9-2 run to take a 14-7 lead over the Eagles. Embry-Riddle used two kills from Rolle, one from Emma Barber (Goodyear, Ariz.), one from Hailey Ching (Honolulu, Hawaii), another one from Clear and a few Park errors to get back into the game and tie it at 17-17. The teams traded points as the set was still tied at 26-26 before two errors gave Embry-Riddle the 28-26 set 2 win and tied the match at a set a piece.
ERAU used their momentum at the beginning of the third set as Rodriguez and Haase both contributed kills to get the Eagles out to an 8-3 lead and force Park to call an early timeout. Right out of the timeout, Figgins added another service ace to increase the lead to 9-3. Embry-Riddle went up 14-6 before the Buccaneers scored the next three to make the score 14-9 and this time it was ERAU that needed a timeout. Coming out of the break, Park got as close as two points before two Barber kills put ERAU up by four at 16-12. The Buccaneers took another timeout as the Eagles went up 18-13 and Embry-Riddle went on to win the set the same way it started with a Haase kill. The final score of the set was 25-21.
The fourth set was back and forth early as both Park and ERAU were able to keep the score within two points. The Buccaneers went up 6-4 before Embry-Riddle scored the next four points as Barber added two more kills on the night to give the Eagles the 8-6 lead. A block between Rolle and Clear forced Park to call a timeout as ERAU took a 15-11 lead. Embry-Riddle got three kills, one each from Ching, Clear, and Barber to go up by 7 at 20-13. Sydney Sniffen (Kapolei, Hawaii) made the score 22-15 with a service ace and ERAU went on to win the set 25-19.
Haase led the Eagles with 13 kills, Barber added 11, and Clear had 10 of her own. Rolle contributed 39 assists in the match along with 9 kills as Figgins had 18 digs and added four service aces on the night.
Embry-Riddle is home again next week as they play Pacific Union in the Eagle Gym at 6pm on Thursday night.
