Box Score Embry-Riddle fell by a final score of 62-52 in Irvine as the Eagles played the Warriors of Westcliff University on Saturday afternoon.
Westcliff scored first and actually ran their lead to 10 points halfway through the first half, but ERAU continued to play hard and was able to close the gap. After the Warriors were up 5-2 five minutes into the game, a three point basket by Brett Bush (Nicholasville, Kentucky) tied the score at 5-5. Westcliff however scored the next ten points as they held ERAU scoreless for five minutes until Dennis Pomazanov (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) made a layup. The Embry-Riddle defense then held the Warriors without a point for four and a half minutes as the Eagles closed the gap in the score. At the half, ERAU was down 25-21 as Jake Klingler (Gilbert, Ariz.) made a three point shot with 30 seconds remaining in the half.
Westcliff scored first to start the second half, but Christmas Togiai, Jr. (Kapolei, Hawaii) responded with a layup followed by another Klingler three to bring the Eagles within three points. Both teams played strong defense for the next two minutes as neither team could score. The Warriors scored first but Embry-Riddle answered as the teams traded points. ERAU was able to get within three points, but the Eagles were unable to take a lead as they lost 62-52.
Klingler scored a game high 18 points and Pomazanov added 13 points and 13 rebounds. Demari Hackett (Surprise, Ariz.) added 15 rebounds for Embry-Riddle.
ERAU will return to Prescott and host Cal Pac leading Antelope Valley on Thursday with tip-off scheduled for 7:30pm.
