Eagles Beat Golden Eagles in Overtime

Embry-Riddle battled with La Sierra and won in overtime by a final score of 74-68 in the Activity Center on Saturday evening.

Jake Klingler (Gilbert, Ariz.) got off to a hot start for the Eagles as he scored 9 points in the first eleven minutes of the game as he made three, three point baskets.  Demari Hackett (Surprise, Ariz.) scored first for ERAU after La Sierra took a 3-0 lead he answered with a layup and made another with 16:51 remaining in the half to give Embry-Riddle a three point advantage.  Neither team scored for the next two minutes and with 13:35 left in the half, LSU retook the lead.  The Eagles led by as many as 10 as Klingler made another three point basket.  The Golden Eagles scored the next six points to cut the ERAU lead to six before David Teibo (Phoenix, Ariz.) made a layup with 1:58 left in the half to make the score 32-26.  At the half, Embry-Riddle led 36-30.

Christmas Togiai, Jr. (Kapolei, Hawaii) made a three point basket to start the second half for ERAU, but then La Sierra scored the next ten points and took a 40-39 lead.  With 13:52 left in the game, the score between ERAU and LSU was tied at 42-42.  The score went back and forth with multiple lead changes as both teams were making layups.  La Sierra led 49-48 with 8:30 to go.  The Golden Eagles led by as many as five points with 5:30 remaining.  Dennis Pomazanov (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) made two free throws to bring the score to 58-55 with LSU still leading.  Conner Ivy (Phoenix, Ariz.) made a three point basket to bring ERAU within two and with 1:38 to go in the game, the score was La Sierra 60, Embry-Riddle 58.  The Eagles were down 64-62 with 6.1 seconds to go when they created a turnover.  Pomazanov was fouled on his layup attempt and made his two free throws and the game headed into overtime.   

To start overtime, Pomazanov finished a layup and made his free throw for the three point play and gave Embry-Riddle a 67-64 advantage.  La Sierra made a layup to get back within one point with 1:54 to go in OT but a great pass from Togiai, Jr. led to a Pomazanov dunk to put the Eagles back up by three.  Togiai, Jr. added to the Embry-Riddle lead with 25.9 seconds left as he finished a three point play and Embry-Riddle went on to win the game 74-68. 

Pomazanov led ERAU with 28 points and nine rebounds.  Klingler added 18 points as he made six three point baskets. 

Embry-Riddle will play again next on Thursday as the Buccaneers from Park-Gilbert will come to Prescott for a 7:30pm tip-off.
