Box Score Embry-Riddle won their second Cal Pac game in a row as they took down the Buccaneers of Park Gilbert in the Activity Center on Thursday evening by a final score of 78-63.
Dennis Pomazanov (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) started the game with back to back layups for Embry-Riddle as the teams were tied 4-4 with 18:18 left in the half. David Teibo (Phoenix, Ariz.) put ERAU up 5-4 as he made one of two free throws. The Eagles extended their lead to seven points as Conner Ivy (Phoenix, Ariz.) made a jump shot. After the Buccaneers got back within two points, Jake Klingler (Gilbert, Ariz.) made a three point basket with 12:22 remaining in the first half. Christmas Togiai, Jr. (Kapolei, Hawaii) scored six points in a minute and thirty seconds to bring the ERAU lead to 11 points. The Embry-Riddle defense stood strong as they did not allow Park to score a basket for three minutes as the Eagles raced out to a 16 point lead. The Buccaneers however scored the next seven points as they came within nine points. At halftime, ERAU led by eight with a 40-32 score.
To begin the second half, Demari Hackett (Surprise, Ariz.) scored six points as Embry-Riddle was back to a 14 point lead. Park didn't score until there was 17:08 left in the game and after they made a layup, Pomazanov added another layup and Togiai, Jr. made a three point basket to bring the score to 53-34 in favor of ERAU. After the Buccaneers made a jump shot, Pomazanov and Hackett each added a layup and with 14:14 left in the game the Eagles led by 21 with a 57-36 lead. The Embry-Riddle defense once again held Park without scoring for three minutes and raised their lead to 24 points. Park made a three followed by a jump shot as they cut into the Eagle lead. With 3:35 left in the game, ERAU led 73-57. The Buccaneers got within 15 points, but Embry-Riddle went on to win 78-63.
Pomazanov led ERAU with 26 points and Hackett added 18. Both Pomazanov and Hackett finished the game with nine rebounds and Togiai, Jr. added 4 steals and five assists for the Eagles.
Embry-Riddle will play again on Saturday against Benedictine Mesa in Phoenix with tip off scheduled for 5pm.
