Box Score Embry-Riddle led early in the first half, but dropped a Cal Pac game on Saturday evening to Benedictine Mesa in Phoenix by a final score of 82-59.
The ERAU offense started well as four different Eagles scored baskets in the first five minutes. Jake Klingler (Gilbert, Ariz.) had five of the team's first 11 points on a jump shot and a three point basket. Christmas Togiai, Jr. (Kapolei, Hawaii), Dennis Pomazanov (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) and Conner Ivy (Phoenix, Ariz.) all added baskets as well. A three point basket by Ivy put Embry-Riddle up 16-4 and forced the Redhawks to call a timeout with 13:10 left in the half. Out of the timeout, BenU got a basket and a free throw, but on the ERAU trip down the floor, Ivy sunk another three to keep the Eagle lead at 12 points. Embry-Riddle went cold for almost five minutes as the Redhawks made a comeback and took the lead. At the half, Benedictine Mesa led 37-28.
The teams traded baskets to start the second half and the Eagles were able to cut into the lead on a Klingler three that made it an eight point game with 14:53 remaining in the game. After a BenU turnover, Ivy made another layup as the score was 38-44 and the Redhawks took a full timeout. After regrouping Benedictine extended their lead back out as they scored the next five points. Embry-Riddle wasn't able to get back within nine points and BenU closed out the game 82-59.
Klingler and ivy each had 16 points for the Eagles and Demari Hackett (Surprise, Ariz.) led with 8 rebounds. Togiai, Jr. dished out four assists and had three steals for ERAU.
Embry-Riddle returns to Prescott for a Cal Pac matchup with UC Merced at 7:30pm in the Activity Center on Thursday evening.
