Box Score In their first meeting back in January, Embry-Riddle and La Sierra went into overtime and for the second time this season, ERAU beat LSU, this time 78-77 in Riverside on Thursday evening.
Christmas Togiai, Jr. (Kapolei, Hawaii) scored five of the games first seven points as the Eagles raced out to a 7-0 lead. The Golden Eagles then scored the next seven to tie the score at 7-7 before a Dennis Pomazanov (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) layup ended their run. With 13:05 to go in the first half, LSU took their first lead at 13-11 and led by as many as five after a three point make. David Teibo (Phoenix, Ariz.) made back to back layups for ERAU to tie the score at 18-18. The teams went back and forth with neither team being able to build much of a lead. Embry-Riddle retook the lead at 29-28 with 4:41 left in the half on a Conner Ivy (Phoenix, Ariz.) layup but then once again La Sierra stormed back with two three point makes to take a one point advantage. At the half, the Golden Eagles led the Eagles 38-37.
La Sierra scored eight quick points to begin the second half, but ERAU was able to get back within a point Pomazanov, Togiai, Jr., and Demari Hackett (Surprise, Ariz.) each made two free throws to make the score 46-45. A three point basket by Jake Klingler (Gilbert, Ariz.) made the score 48-46 in favor or Embry-Riddle. The ERAU defense played well as La Sierra didn't score a basket for seven minutes and the Eagles were able to extend their lead to 8 points at 54-46. ERAU then went cold as the Golden Eagles managed to tie the game back up at 54-54 before Klingler made three straight free throws followed by a Hackett layup with 6:38 left in the game. Embry-Riddle held a late lead, but La Sierra tied the game at 70-70 on a made three point shot and a free throw with just one second on the clock.
Pomazanov scored the first four points of overtime for the Eagles and Klingler added another three to make the score 77-72. After the Golden Eagles made a layup and a three, a free throw from Hackett sealed the deal as Embry-Riddle won 78-77.
Pomazanov led ERAU with 18 points and 17 rebound. Togiai, Jr. added 16 points and 8 rebounds, and 8 assists for the Eagles.
Embry-Riddle will play again on Saturday at the Pioneer Event Center in Lancaster for their last regular season game of the year at 5pm MST.
