Embry-Riddle delivered a commanding performance Wednesday evening, sweeping Benedictine Mesa in straight sets (25-18, 25-18, 25-22) at home in the Eagle Gym.
The Eagles came out strong in the first set, hitting an efficient .263 and tallying 17 kills, setting the tone for the match. Despite 10 tie scores and 2 lead changes in the opening frame, Embry-Riddle maintained composure and closed out the set with authority.
Senior Emma Barber led the offensive charge with a match-high 14 kills on .400 hitting, showcasing her consistency and power at the net. She was supported by Brooke Eglinton and Haeden Baker, who each contributed 7 kills, while setter Alice Tuci orchestrated the attack with 24 assists and added 4 digs.
Defensively, the Eagles were anchored by Alexis Creager, who recorded 8 digs, and Hie Loui, who added 5 digs and served up 3 aces. The team totaled 39 digs and 5 service aces, keeping Benedictine Mesa off balance throughout the match.
Embry-Riddle's blocking game also made an impact, with Hannah Clear and Anela Chew each contributing solo blocks and combining for 3 block assists. The Eagles out-hit the Redhawks .250 to .136, and held Benedictine Mesa to just 26 kills over three sets.
