Eagles Surge Past Truett McConnell for First Win of the Season

Embry-Riddle earned its first victory of the 2025-26 season Friday night, defeating Truett McConnell 69-50 at the Benjamin F. Arena. The Eagles (1-4) used a dominant second-half performance to pull away and secure the non-conference win.

After a back-and-forth opening quarter, Embry-Riddle held a slim 19-15 lead. The second period saw both teams struggle offensively, heading into halftime tied at 31-27. The Eagles found their rhythm after the break, outscoring the Bears 17-6 in the third quarter and 21-17 in the fourth to seal the 19-point victory.

Bench production proved pivotal, as Embry-Riddle's reserves contributed 44 points. Sophomore Angelina Whelan led the charge with 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting, adding six rebounds and three assists. Freshman Bella Barrett chipped in eight points, while Makenzie Alapai and Jaelah Clayton each scored eight. Nicole Evenson and Morgan Evenson combined for 12 points off the bench.

Defensively, the Eagles forced 16 turnovers and converted them into 15 points. Embry-Riddle also controlled the glass with a 34-27 rebounding advantage and tallied 17 assists on 27 made field goals.

For Truett McConnell, Ava Queen posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Caleeya Duke added 10 points.

Embry-Riddle shot 40.9% from the field and 28.6% from beyond the arc, while holding the Bears to 30.2% overall and just 18.8% from three-point range.

ERAU will play at exhibition game at Northern Arizona University on Tuesday with tip off scheduled for 6:00pm.
