Embry-Riddle played their season opener today at Eagle Softball Field and came away with two wins as the Eagles beat Carroll College 6-2 in game one and followed that with an 8-3 win in the second game on Monday afternoon.
Game 1
Carroll jumped out to a 2-0 lead after three innings as the ERAU bats took a little while to warm up. However in the 4th inning the Eagles batted around as four runners came home.
Autumn Sulusi started this inning iwth a single and then
Jade Bayless was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. A passed ball allowed both runners to move up a base.
Camille Graham then hit a triple as ERAU tied the score at 2-2.
Anise Romo and
Katie Jamieson each followed with a single. Graham cross the plate on Romo's single and then with two outs,
Lily Anderson singled to centerfield to score Romo. After four innings the Eagles led 4-2.
Embry-Riddle added two more runs in the bottom of the 5th. With one out,
Alexus Marquez singled to left field and Graham executed a sac bunt to move her to second. Romo then had her second hit of the game, a single to left field. Romo moved to second on defensive indifference and both base runners were singled home by
Katie Jamieson.
ERAU held on for the 6-2 season opening win.
Vanessa Brink earned the win giving up just two runs on six hits in six innings of work.
Game 2
This time it was Embry-Riddle that scored first as back to back doubles by
Emma Almodoba and Anderson gave ERAU a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
The Eagles added three more runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Jamieson led off with a single followed by a one out single from Almodoba. Anderson was then walked to load up the bases for Embry-Riddle. A single by
Leah Salas moved everyone up a base and doubled the ERAU lead at 2-0. The Eagles tacked on another run on a groudout by Sulusi and Marquez hit a single to left field to make it 4-0 after two innings.
After a quick 1-2-3 inning by Embry-Riddle pitcher
Claire Streeter,
Kayli Clark was walked and advanced to 2nd on Almodoba's third hit of the game. She advanced on a wild pitch and came around to score after a throw got away from the Saints catcher.
Carroll scored two runs in the top of the 6th inning but the Eagles answered right back as Bayless hit a three run home run to put the Eagles up 8-3. Streeter pitched six innings, allowing four hits and struck out six batters.
Embry-Riddle will have a little break before ERAU heads to Caldwell, Idaho to take on the Yotes in a four game series beginning on February 14th.
