Kasun Brace Leads Eagles to WIn

Kari Kasun scored two goals and Jamie Brandon netted the game winner to give Embry-Riddle the 3-2 win over Rocky Mountain on Monday evening in Prescott, Ariz.

The Eagles (2-0-0) showcased their offensive firepower, outshooting the Battlin' Bears (2-1-0) by a staggering 28-3 margin. Despite the disparity in chances, Rocky Mountain kept the match close with clinical finishing and a standout performance from goalkeeper Matea Vernon, who recorded 11 saves.

Embry-Riddle struck first in the 33rd minute when Kasun netted her second goal of the season. Just 25 seconds later, Rocky Mountain responded with a goal from Charlize Davis to level the score. The back-and-forth continued as Kasun added her third of the season in the 41st minute, assisted by Newlin, only for Emma Lensing to equalize for Rocky Mountain just before halftime with help from Georgia Dean.

The second half saw Embry-Riddle continue to dominate possession and chances, culminating in the game-winner from Brandon in the 66th minute, assisted by Leah Barone. The Eagles held firm defensively to preserve the lead.

Kasun led all players with eight shots, six on goal, while Newlin and Brandon added four shots apiece. Rocky Mountain's Vernon was instrumental in keeping her team in the game, facing relentless pressure throughout the 90 minutes.

Embry-Riddle will travel to Denver next to play #7 ranked John Brown on Thursday followed by #23 USAO on Saturday.
