A 6th inning homerun by
Fernando Perez-Ortega led a comeback that fell just short in game one of the day as Embry-Riddle fell 6-5 before dropping game two 5-1 at ACU Baseball Field on Friday evening.
Game 1
The Eagles (7–12) showed resilience throughout the matchup, clawing back from early deficits and producing several timely extra-base hits. Four different ERAU hitters doubled, and freshman pinch-hitter
Perez-Ortega delivered the biggest swing of the day, launching a two-run homer in the sixth to pull the Eagles within one.
Embry-Riddle threatened immediately in the first, putting two runners aboard after James Warren reached on an error and Javier Izaguirre singled up the middle, but the Eagles couldn't capitalize.
After falling behind 2–0, ERAU broke through in the third. Konner Nelson reached on a throwing error, stole second, and scored on Miles Murphy's RBI single to left.
The offense kept rolling in the fourth.
Jake Lokos doubled down the left-field line, and
Owen Montgomery followed with an RBI double to right, tying the game.  A productive groundout by
Carter Graham brought Montgomery home, giving ERAU a 3–2 advantage.
Arizona Christian responded with a four-run bottom half, capitalizing on two hit-by-pitches and multiple wild pitches.
The Eagles refused to go quietly. In the sixth, Connor Rosinski ripped a double, and pinch-hitter Perez-Ortega crushed a two-run homer to right, trimming the margin to 6–5 and giving ERAU all the momentum.
Reliever Braden Wilson kept the Eagles within striking distance, tossing two scoreless innings without allowing a hit.
Game 2
Embry-Riddle wrapped up Friday's doubleheader at Arizona Christian with a hard-fought 5–1 loss, highlighted by a gritty start from Carson Stoller, who struck out 10 over five innings, and an early spark from the Eagles' speed on the bases.
Stoller opened the game in command, retiring the first three hitters he faced and later striking out the side in the third. His final line—5.0 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 10 K, 0 BB—kept the Eagles within striking distance throughout.
The Firestorm broke through in the second with back-to-back extra-base hits, including an RBI double from M. Cueva.
Embry-Riddle answered in the top of the third with textbook small ball. Kaden Menard walked, stole second, and advanced to third on Konner Nelson's single. Moments later, Izaguirre drove in Menard on a groundout to short.
Arizona Christian regained control in the bottom of the fourth, stringing together four hits—including a two-run single from Cueva.
ERAU continued to apply pressure, highlighted by:
-
Montgomery's walk and stolen base in the sixth
-
Caden Truman's infield single to open the seventh
-
Another stolen base from Menard, giving the Eagles four on the night
But ACU's bullpen—Lucero and Bailey—held ERAU to just one hit over the final three innings.
The teams will play the series finale in Glendale Saturday afternoon at 2pm.
