Embry-Riddle used a four run 6th inning to come from behind and take game one of the double header over Benedictine Mesa 6-5 and the Eagles won a close 1-0 game in the nightcap at Chandler Gilbert CC on Friday. Â
Game 1
Claire Streeter battled through early defensive miscues but never wavered, tossing all eight innings while allowing just one earned run on seven hits and striking out seven. Even as Benedictine Mesa capitalized on errors to build a 5–1 lead through five innings, Streeter kept the Eagles within striking distance and shut the Redhawks out over the final three frames.
Embry-Riddle's breakthrough came in the sixth, when the offense erupted for four runs to erase a 5–1 deficit.
The rally began with a single from Jade Bayless, followed by a walk to Arianna Garcia and another single from Katie Jamieson. Anise Romo added a base hit to load the bases, and the Eagles immediately capitalized.
A bases-loaded walk to Danica Quinn brought in the first run, and a passed ball allowed Garcia to score. Moments later, Annalie Castanon drove in another with a groundout, and Romo came home on a Benedictine error to tie the game at 5–5.
With the international tiebreaker runner placed at second to start the eighth, ERAU wasted no time. Danica Quinn advanced to third on a wild pitch, and Castanon once again delivered, grounding out to second to bring home the go-ahead run.
That run proved decisive, as Streeter shut the door in the bottom half, inducing a bunt out, a foul out, and a groundout to short to seal the win.
Game 2
Behind a masterclass in the circle from freshman Ava Greene, Embry-Riddle capped its Friday doubleheader with a crisp, efficient 1–0 victory in game two.
Greene was untouchable from first pitch to final out, scattering just four hits across seven innings while striking out three and walking only one. She faced just 25 batters—one over the minimum—and needed only 77 pitches to finish the job.
Pinch-hitter Jill Bock ignited the rally with a leadoff double before Annalie Castanon re-entered to run. Ryan Da Costa followed with a single to left, pushing Castanon to third. That set the stage for Leah Salas, who delivered the game's lone RBI on a fielder's choice.
Benedictine Mesa threatened only once in the seventh, putting the tying run aboard on a single. But Greene and the ERAU defense stayed composed.
The two teams will play the final two games of the series on Saturday with the first pitch at 1pm at Chandler Gilbert. Â
