AUSTIN, Texas. - The Embry-Riddle Women's Volleyball team picked up a pair of victories Saturday at Branch Gymnasium, defeating Avila (Mo.) in four sets before closing the day with another four-set win over host Huston-Tillotson. The Eagles improved to 5-2 on the season with the two victories.
Embry-Riddle 3, Avila 1
Embry-Riddle opened the day with a 25-14, 21-25, 25-12, 25-18 victory over Avila. After cruising through the opening set, the Eagles dropped a tightly contested second frame before responding with dominant performances in the third and fourth sets to secure the win.
The Eagles' offense was firing on all cylinders, posting 65 kills and a .262 attack percentage while holding Avila to a .088 hitting mark.
Brooke Eglinton led all players with 16 kills and added 11 digs for a double-double, while Anela Chew recorded 12 kills and 11 digs. Hannah Clear chipped in 11 kills on an efficient .435 hitting percentage, and Abbylynn Farrell added nine kills with a .389 attack clip.
Setter Annette Tapia directed the offense with 50 assists while also contributing 16 digs. Defensively, Sydney Sniffen paced the back row with 27 digs as Embry-Riddle totaled 81 digs in the match.
Embry-Riddle 3, Huston-Tillotson 1
In the afternoon match, Embry-Riddle earned a 25-18, 25-27, 25-20, 25-10 victory over Huston-Tillotson. After narrowly falling in the second set, the Eagles regained control and closed the match in emphatic fashion, limiting the Rams to just 10 points in the fourth set.
The Eagles finished with 51 kills and a .214 hitting percentage while holding Huston-Tillotson to .099 hitting. Embry-Riddle recorded 10 total blocks, helping slow the Huston-Tillotson attack throughout the afternoon.
Chew once again led the offense with 10 kills and added two service aces. Clear and Destiny Matthews each contributed nine and seven kills, respectively, while Matthews hit an impressive .385 and totaled four block assists and two solo blocks.
Tapia continued her strong play with 36 assists, 20 digs, and five kills on a .500 hitting percentage. Sniffen anchored the defense with 19 digs and three service aces.
