Embry-Riddle opened Great Southwest Athletic Conference play with a convincing 2-0 victory over OUAZ on Thursday night at Spirit Field.
The Eagles struck twice in a 33-second span during the first half. Erick Quirarte opened the scoring in the 13th minute, heading home an assist from Rodrigo Garcia for his first goal of the season. Rojvan Karaer quickly doubled the advantage in the 13th minute with his first goal of the year.
Embry-Riddle's defense held firm throughout the match, limiting OUAZ to six shots and three shots on goal. Goalkeeper Sam Macdonald recorded three saves to preserve the shutout.
The Eagles finished with eight shots, including six on target, while Jack Murdoch made four saves for the hosts. Lucas Thompson led ERAU with three shots, while Quirarte, Karaer and Garcia each added one shot on goal.
ERAU will host Benedictine Mesa at 7:30pm on Saturday night at Varsity Field.
