PRESCOTT, Ariz. – The Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University volleyball team opened Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) play with a 3-1 victory over La Sierra University on Wednesday night. The Eagles improved to 8-3 overall and 1-0 in GSAC
action with set scores of 25-16, 26-28, 25-15, and 25-17.
Embry-Riddle came out firing in the opening set, hitting .400 as a team while holding the Golden Eagles to just 11 kills en route to a convincing 25-16 win. After a back-and-forth second set slipped away by a 28-26 score, the Eagles quickly regained momentum and controlled the remainder of the match, cruising to victories in the third and fourth sets.
The Eagles finished the evening with 49 kills, 49 assists, 74 digs, and 12 team blocks while limiting La Sierra to a .057 hitting percentage.
Anela Chew led the offensive attack with 13 kills and added 20 digs to record her double-double of the season. Brooke Eglinton contributed nine kills and a team-high 19 digs, while Hannah Clear added seven kills.
Setter Alice Tuci directed the offense with 38 assists while also tallying six kills, eight digs, and three blocks. At the net, Haeden Baker was dominant, registering five kills on six attacks for a .833 hitting percentage while adding four block assists. Abbylynn Farrell chipped in six total blocks to help spark the Eagles' defensive effort.
Defensively, Embry-Riddle received strong performances from throughout the lineup. Chew's 20 digs paced the team, while Eglinton added 19 and Sydney Sniffen posted 11. The Eagles' defense helped force 29 La Sierra attack errors and held the visitors below a .100 hitting percentage in three of the four sets.
The victory marks a successful start to conference play for Embry-Riddle, which won three of the four sets by at least eight points and improved to 1-0 in GSAC competition.
