Michael Trujillo

Michael Trujillo enters his 8th season as the head coach of the Embry-Riddle Women's Basketball program.

In his previous seven seasons with ERAU, Trujillo has an overall record of 104-63, with a combined record of 60-31 in conference play.  The Eagles did not compete in 2020-2021 due to Covid cancelling the season.  During the six seasons of competition with Trujillo as the head coach, the Eagles have won a regular season championship in 2019-2020 and a conference tournament championship in 2023-2024.  In 2018-2019, his first season with the Eagles, Trujillo was selected as the Cal Pac Coach of the Year.  In his combined seven years at the helm, he has coached a player that earned All-American honors twice, a Conference Player of the Year, 17 Cal Pac All-Conference selections, and 23 conference All-Academic selections.

The Eagles have also soared to academic excellence under Trujillo’s leadership. All seven of his years have seen the program achieve a spot on the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top 25.  Last season, the Eagles finished the year with a combined team GPA of 3.725, which earned them the 7th highest GPA for all NAIA women’s basketball programs.  In 2018-2019, the Eagles finished with a team GPA of 3.718 which earned them the 2nd highest GPA in the country that year.

The 2024-2025 season was the first year of competition for ERAU in the Great Southwest Athletic Conference (GSAC).  The ladies finished the year 10-16 overall and 5-9 in conference play.  Last year was only the second year the Eagles have not made the playoffs under Trujillo’s leadership.

The 2023-2024 season was the most complete year for the women’s basketball program.  The ladies finished the year 19-13 overall and went 14-6 in the last year of competition in the Cal Pac conference.  Down the stretch of conference play, the Eagles ran off 8 wins in a row and won 10 of their last 12 regular season games.  They continued their strong play into the conference tournament, where they defeated Antelope Valley 81-58 in the championship game to claim their program-first tournament championship.  That win qualified them for their first appearance in the NAIA National Tournament.  They went on to play Carroll and lost 49-89, in a season that saw Carroll make it to the Final Four.

Before being named the head coach at Embry-Riddle, Trujillo was the Associate Head Coach at Idaho State.  During his four years in Pocatello, the Bengals went a combined 71-57 and played in two consecutive Big Sky Championship games. He worked primarily with guards and was also in charge of scheduling. He also had duties in the areas of recruiting, scouting of opponents, and academics.

From 2011-2014, Trujillo was the women’s head coach at Division-II Texas A&M - Kingsville.  He inherited a team that won only three games the year before, and in his third year, led his team to the Lone Star conference tournament for the first time in five years.  During his three years with the Javelinas’, Trujillo had a combined record of 25-53.

Before his three-year stint as the head coach at Kingsville, Trujillo was an assistant coach at Texas State University where he helped coach the Bobcats to the 2007-2008 Southland Conference regular season championship. The Bobcats also won a first round game in the WNIT for the program’s first ever post-season victory. During the same year, he helped coach the Southland Conference Player of the Year who went on to play professionally overseas and was selected as the 12th female member in the history of the Harlem Globetrotters.

Trujillo also coached for the 2006-2007 season at Northern Arizona University. While at NAU, Trujillo helped guide the Lumberjack program to the Big Sky Conference championship and coached the team to a record of 20-12. During the Big Sky conference tournament that was held in Missoula, Montana, they upset No. 25 Montana on its home floor in the semifinal game. NAU advanced to the championship game but lost to Idaho State.

Prior to NAU, Trujillo coached for three years at Sam Houston State and for one year at Arizona State under Charli Turner-Thorne, ASU’s all-time winningest coach.

In his 23 years at the collegiate level, Trujillo has recruited and coached 34 All-Conference selections; 2 Conference Players of the Year; 61 All-Academic selections and 4 Conference Student-Athletes of the Year.

Prior to his collegiate coaching, Trujillo worked in the capacities of assistant director, athletic director, teacher and head coach of basketball and track/cross country at the Northland Preparatory Academy High School and Flagstaff Junior Academy in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Trujillo is married to Tammy Harden and has two sons, Aaron and Isaac.
