GOODYEAR, ARIZ. – The Embry-Riddle women's golf team had an excellent start to its season this week, playing in the RJGA Shootout at Estrella, hosted by Western New Mexico University. The Eagles finished ahead of three NCAA Division II schools, and competed well with some of the top teams and golfers in D2.
ERAU had three golfers finish within the top 35, led by Kaetlin Halseth, who placed tied for 22nd. Halseth shot a 74 (+2) in the final round, which was three strokes better than Monday and saw her jump up 16 spots on the individual leaderboard. Halseth also had six birdies throughout the tournament, and had one of the best par-4 averages of the entire tournament.
Libby Axen finished tied for 31st, and had a pretty consistent tournament. Axen was particularly good on par-5s, averaging 4.88 shots and finishing one-under on the par-5 holes.
Hannah Spiller played great as an individual, finishing tied for 35th with a score of 155 (+11). Spiller had a great first round, posting a 74 (+2), and had five birdies over the two rounds.
Maisy Alsen also had a big jump up the leaderboard on Tuesday, moving up eight spots with her 78 on the final day. Hailey Stevenson also moved up six spots herself, also shooting a 78 and finishing the tournament with a 161.
Cami Culp had a consistent tournament, as she shot 82 on Monday before posting an 83 on Tuesday. As an individual, Lois Sheaffer had matching scored of 86 in each round.
The Eagles will have a week off before returning to play its home fall tournament. Day one of the ERAU Fall Invitational from the Antelope Hills Golf Course in Prescott is scheduled for Sunday, October 9.
