In a hard-fought battle at the McLaughlin Center, Embry-Riddle (AZ) women's basketball team fell to Montana State-Northern with a final score of 79-73 on Friday evening. Despite a strong start, ERAU couldn't hold off a late surge from the Lights, dropping their record to 2-4.
First Half:
The Eagles came out strong, leading 22-14 at the end of the first quarter. Zakiirah King (Chandler, Ariz.) and Ella Schott (Cave Creek, Ariz.) were key contributors, with King scoring 6 points and Schott adding 7 points, including a three-pointer. The team maintained their lead into halftime, going into the break up 36-27.
Second Half:
Montana State-Northern turned the tide in the third quarter, outscoring Embry-Riddle 25-17. The fourth quarter saw a continued push from Montana State-Northern, who scored 27 points to Embry-Riddle's 20. Despite a valiant effort, Embry-Riddle couldn't regain the lead.
Key Performances:
- King led ERAU with 17 points, shooting 7-17 from the field.
- Schott was a standout off the bench, scoring 22 points, including 4 three-pointers, and grabbing 4 rebounds.
- Sydney Mickulin (Nolensville, Tenn.) contributed with 7 rebounds and 4 points, providing a strong presence inside.
Embry-Riddle will have a quick turnaround as the Eagles are back on the court tomorrow to play the Argos from the University of Providence at 5pm.
