Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Eagles Beat #3 Ranked Cougars to Start Season

For the first time, Embry-Riddle beat Spring Arbor on Saturday night in Spring Arbor, Michigan in front of a packed stadium with the final score being 1-0.

The game was closely contested from beginning to end. The Cougars initiated the offense with a couple of early shots and a corner kick, but the Eagles quickly found their rhythm. Aubrie Labno (Anthem, Ariz.) took ERAU's first shot, which the goalkeeper saved. Embry-Riddle then dominated with six consecutive attempts on goal, though none found the back of the net. Approaching halftime, Spring Arbor created the half's most promising opportunity following a corner kick, but Annabelle Ruckle (Phoenix, Ariz.) secured the save for the Eagles.

The game's second half mirrored the first, with both teams exchanging control. Shortly after a Cougar's shot ricocheted off the post, SAU committed a foul near midfield. Hannah Draper (Tucson, Ariz.), delivered the free kick, which resulted in a defensive error, as a misdirected header ended up in the net, giving Embry-Riddle a 1-0 lead in the 59th minute. The Eagles' defense remained resolute, securing the 1-0 victory. Ruckle recorded two saves during the match.

The Cougars and Eagles have met four other times with the first being in 2017.  Embry-Riddle lost their first two matches to Spring Arbor and then the two teams tied in 2021 and 2022.  Last years match up was canceled due to the bad weather in Prescott, Ariz.

Embry-Riddle will return home and host the #20 ranked Yotes of College of Idaho at 7:30pm on Friday night at Varsity Field.
