Mustangs Beat Eagles

Embry-Riddle had their first game of the 2024 season in the Eagle Gym on Wednesday evening and The Master's University came to Prescott ready to play and took the match 3-0 from the Eagles.  TMU took set 1 28-26, the second set 25-22, and the final set 25-18.  

Set 1: The Master's University 28, Embry-Riddle 26

  • Early Lead: The Mustangs took an early lead with strong offensive plays from Grace Colburn and Ruby Duncan.
  • Eagles' Comeback: Embry-Riddle fought back with Kelly Hansen (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) leading the charge, bringing the score to a tie multiple times.  Hansen led ERAU with 11 kills as she hit .476 in the match.  
  • Decisive Points: The set saw several lead changes and tie scores, but the Mustangs managed to clinch the set 28-26 with a crucial kill by Isabella Amet.

Set 2: The Master's University 25, Embry-Riddle 22

  • Balanced Play: Both teams displayed balanced play, with the Mustangs maintaining a slight edge.
  • Key Rally: A key rally midway through the set, highlighted by impressive digs from Sierra Hale and Timberlie Miller, helped the Mustangs pull ahead.
  • Closing Out: The Mustangs closed out the set 25-22, with Kinsley Kollman delivering the final blow.

Set 3: The Master's University 25, Embry-Riddle 18

  • Strong Start: The Mustangs started strong, quickly building a lead with effective serves and blocks.
  • Eagles' Struggle: Embry-Riddle struggled to keep up, with several attack errors hindering their progress.
  • Final Push: The Mustangs maintained their momentum, with McKenna Brady and Andrea Barrera contributing key points to secure the set 25-18 and the match victory.
The Eagles will look to regroup before they continue GSAC play on Saturday back in the Eagle Gym against Life Pacific University at 2pm.
