Embry-Riddle won their first game on Saturday 6-5 over MidAmerica Nazarene University before the Eagles fell to Taylor University 20-3 at Greenway High School to finish the Coach Calderone Invitational 1-2.
Game 1:
After giving up two runs in the top of the 1st inning, ERAU answered back right away in the bottom of the 1st with four runs.
Miles Murphy was walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. A single by
James Warren put runners on first and third.
Roberto Garza-Nunez then doubled to right field to make the score 2-1.
Owen Cain had his first hit of the game, a single, that tied the score at 2-2 as Garza-Nunez was able to come home. A double by
Kaleb Shannon scored both base runners to give the Eagles a two run advantage.
Embry-Riddle held their lead until the top of the 6th inning as the Pioneers tied the game at 4-4.
MNU took a one run lead in the top of the 8th inning, but once again ERAU answered right back in the bottom half. Garza-Nunez started the inning with a single and the Cain hit a two run homerun to make the score 6-5.
Jesse Kaphing pitched well for the Eagles, throwing five innings and giving up just two runs.
Spencer Rego earned the win as he struck out two in his 1.2 innings of work.
Game 2:
Embry-Riddle starting pitcher
Spencer Lanz was able to get out bases loaded jams in the first and second innings, but Taylor University made the Eagles pay in the third inning. The Trojans put up 19 runs as ERAU had to use six different pitchers.
The Eagles managed to get one run back in the bottom of the third as Garza-Nunez hit home
Konner Nelson. Nelson led off the inning with a double.
ERAU scored twice in the bottom of the 5th inning as well.
Carter Graham was walked and
Brandon Dobson was hit by a pitch.
Sawyer Stout then singled to center field to bring both runners home and make the score 3-20. The Trojans held on for the 7 inning win over the Eagles.
Embry-Riddle will play their first home game next on February 7th at 11am against the Nelson University Warriors.
