Embry-Riddle battled hard on the road Saturday afternoon but ultimately fell to Benedictine Mesa in straight sets (13-25, 18-25, 19-25) at the BenU PEC.
Despite the final score, the Eagles showed resilience and flashes of strong play throughout the match, especially in the third set where they pushed the Redhawks to six tie scores and three lead changes.
Brooke Eglinton led the Eagles offensively with six kills and four digs, while Emma Barber added five kills and six digs. Setter Alice Tuci contributed 18 assists and chipped in with two service aces and nine digs, showcasing her versatility on the court.
Defensively, Alexis Creager and Ronni Lyons anchored the back row with 10 digs apiece, helping to keep rallies alive and provide opportunities for counterattacks.
Embry-Riddle improved their hitting percentage in the second set to .216, a notable jump from the first set's -.097, indicating a mid-match adjustment and increased offensive efficiency. However, Benedictine Mesa's consistent attack, led by Railey Druxman's 16 kills and Camille Collins' .500 hitting percentage, proved too much to overcome.
The Eagles will host the Golden Eagles of La Sierra on Tuesday at 6pm on the Eagle Gym.
