Despite a dominant offensive performance and a relentless second-half push, the Embry-Riddle was unable to find the back of the net in a hard-fought 1–0 loss to Arizona Christian on Saturday evening.
The Eagles outshot the Firestorm 24–13, including a 15–7 advantage in the second half, and earned seven corner kicks to Arizona Christian's four. However, a first-half goal by Edwin Meza in the 42nd minute proved to be the difference-maker in a match that saw Embry-Riddle control much of the possession and tempo.
Forward Nitai Bental led the Eagles with six shots, three of which were on target, while Sean Maguire and Christopher Cruz each added multiple attempts that tested Arizona Christian goalkeeper Emiliano Vega.
Embry-Riddle goalkeeper Alex Bissett made two saves and played a full 90 minutes, anchoring a defense that limited Arizona Christian to just three shots on goal.
ERAU will play the Redhawks of Benedictine Mesa on Thursday at the ASU Polytechnic campus with kickoff scheduled for 8:00pm.
