Embry-Riddle continued their strong conference run with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Park-Gilbert on Saturday evening at Varsity Field. The Eagles improved to 7-4-4 overall and 6-2-3 in conference play.
Embry-Riddle struck first in the 23rd minute when junior forward Nitai Bental found the back of the net off a well-placed assist from Francesco Busini, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. Bental's goal marked his continued impact as a key offensive contributor this season.
Park-Gilbert responded early in the second half with a goal from Ryan Masterson in the 53rd minute, assisted by Mamadou Seck, leveling the score at 1-1. But the Eagles wasted no time regaining control. Just 36 seconds later, Sean Maguire delivered the game-winner, capitalizing on a double assist from Rojvan Karaer and Ravi Holladay to put Embry-Riddle back on top.
The Eagles outshot the Buccaneers 10-7 and held a slight edge in shots on goal (3-2). Goalkeeper Alex Bissett anchored the defense with two crucial saves, including a diving stop in the 32nd minute to deny Havard Brynie. Bissett's composure and leadership helped Embry-Riddle weather a late surge from Park-Gilbert, who earned six corner kicks and committed eight fouls in a physical second half.
ERAU will head to Park-Gilbert on Tuesday with kickoff scheduled for 7:30pm at Arizona Athletic Grounds.
